The Knowledge Transfer Account (KTA) at Glasgow University will help to build upon the recognised strength and scale of the University’s EPSRC funded nanotechnology research and through the mechanisms and partnerships it develops enhance the effective transfer of knowledge into the marketplace.
Working closely with the Project Manager, the post holder will be required to contribute to increasing the level of EPSRC-related Knowledge Transfer (KT) activity with appropriate industrial partners in the nanotechnology area.
Duties will include the promotion of the University’s expertise to external stakeholders and industry; developing new collaborations; identifying opportunities for KT projects; supporting the successful implementation of KTA projects and providing KT training and mentoring for academic colleagues. You would be expected to be able to effectively convey complex technical information in a manner appropriate to a non-technical audience.

SETsquared is a well established and widely acclaimed business acceleration programme developed by four research-led universities - Bath, Bristol, Southampton and Surrey.
We are seeking an experienced senior executive, who has been heavily involved with early stage technology businesses to provide business support to the member companies and their teams. You will be expected to chair monthly and quarterly business reviews and assist the Incubation Director in identifying companies to go forward to the Investor Event and Surrey 100.
The successful candidate will work closely with the SETsquared team and will require a good understanding of regional business support organisations and routes to funding. You will need to form good working relations with various professional support services and the University's Technology Transfer team to assist with exploiting spin-outs projects.
The post is temporary in the first instance until 31 March 2011.

Practical experience of contract drafting, negotiation and contract management in an industrial or academic R&D context is essential, as the role will involve writing bespoke contracts and consortia agreements. A law degree would be useful, as would a science or business related qualification. You will be organised and methodical, with excellent attention to detail and strong computer skills. The ability to prioritise a busy workload is essential, as is the need to meet deadlines of varying time scales. You will be prepared to work flexibly, sometimes under pressure, and will need to be able to demonstrate experience of working within a team, using your initiative and taking personal responsibility.

This full-time post is a key role in support of the University’s strategy to promote the development and commercial exploitation of its research base. You are a highly motivated individual with a desire to pursue a career in technology transfer, have a proven ability to identify commercial applications of academic research, good inter-personal skills and an initial degree in a bioscience discipline. Experience of working in a research, academic or commercial environment and knowledge of intellectual property matters is essential.
