About UNICO
UNICO provides a forum for exchange and development of best practice amongst its members via meetings twice a year hosted by members' universities around the country and an electronic discussion group.
UNICO also conducts and publishes an annual Commercialisation Survey and is very grateful to those completing the questionnaire. The Survey has been published since 2001 and the latest version is available electronically to academic and other government-funded bodies upon completion of the request form under the "Survey" link on this website.
UNICO Conferences focus on topics such as spin-out company management, investment finance, seed and venture funds, accounting, taxation, legal issues, technology licensing, and consultancy with speakers from:- member companies with particular areas of expertise
- other technology transfer professionals
- professional staff, such as lawyers, bankers, ventures capitalist, accountants
- university representatives and staff from spin-out companies
- representatives of national and regional policy makers
UNICO aims to support university technology transfer professionals and associated activities but does not offer direct support to the companies established to pursue commercialisation of individual technologies arising from the Universities' research programmes, nor university companies that are not research-related, e.g. managing premises, utilities, etc.
A number of industrial and professional organisations have joined UNICO as Corporate Affiliates to facilitate interaction with the group and enjoy all benefits (except voting rights) - particularly that of direct access to the most active groups promoting the commercial development of academic research, expertise and resources in the UK. UNICO is keen to expand its roll of Corporate Affiliates, as it believes these interactions are extremely positive to both sides.
